Thunder Road Cars delighted to work on a Shelby Cobra #CSX8001
Cheng and his team here at Thunder Road Cars were tasked with raising the suspension (which had collapsed in transit from the USA) and preparing the car for a European Road Rally of about 1500 miles, which it completed with no problems.
Chris from Brost Forge was most helpful. He re-tempered and re-arched the leaf springs to raise the ride height.
We subsequently moved and re-padded the seats and added removable headrests to make the car more comfortable to drive, plus we did other maintenance on the car.

On Track Today: AC Owners’ Club Sprint… but it wasn’t all V8 muscle
Just because the sprint at the circuit today was organised by the AC Owners’ Club doesn’t mean that the entry list was exclusive to the marque. Amongst the Aces and Cobras, as well as earlier AC models, there were Aston Martins, Lotuses and even the odd historic Formula Three car. There was even a Cobra replica competing, in the form of Cheng Lim’s hugely powerful Ram.
As well as a broad cross-section of cars on track (the aforementioned Lotuses were as diverse as a Lotus Bristol and 340R), there was also plenty of road cars around the paddocks. These included examples of the 1940s 2-litre saloon and the 1990s Ace, both rare and intriguing in different ways.
The people we spoke to were all enjoying a day’s competition in the unseasonably good November weather. Sprinting is one of the most accessible forms of motorsport around, as we explained in this ‘how to’ article earlier this year. You’ve enough time to prepare for the start of next year’s season in the Spring…
